God Made Steelers Football

I will probably be chastised for this, but I have to admit, I am not a fan of sports. Basketball, tennis, baseball, hockey, yep--pretty much bored to tears. There is only one sport that I practice religiously and that is Steelers football. C'mon folks. I'm from Pittsburgh!

How could you not be a fan of the greatest team ever made famous by the Rooney's and Chuck Noll? From Myron Cope's Terrible Towel to tail-gating at Heinz Field, Pittsburgh is full of Steeler pride. If you look, you will find black and gold everywhere.

A few years back, I won two tickets to a Steelers game in Arizona. Imagine my surprise (and Arizona's) when there were more of our fans packing their stadium than their own home team junkies. We have many supporters throughout the country and nothing brings them closer together than working towards Super Bowl... Hmm... What number are we at? ;-)

So this Sunday, you know where I'll be. Praying my team wins the AFC Championship and moving on to the Super Bowl. I will leave you with an inspiring quote from Chuck Noll.

"The key to a winning season is focusing on one opponent at a time. Winning one week at a time. Never look back and never look ahead."

I think we could use this advice for anything! Go Steelers!

  1. *shakes head* Sorry, Victoria. I'm afraid I've never quite understood football. The best use I've found for football games is that they keep Hubby occupied so I can write. Kind of a virtual baby-sitter! But I hope -for your sake- that your Steelers win and I DO like the quote. Good luck! :-)

  2. Hm...well, I'm not so sure about the "looking ahead" part...but have fun watching the game! I recently read "Friday Night Lights" about high school football in Texas, so I think I understand how strongly you feel about the sport and it's connections to Pittsburgh - great town, BTW, used to go there a lot on business. I hope your team wins big! :)

  3. Yes, He did! I don't know how many happy hours I spent watching the Steel Curtain. I know I'm dating myself, but I don't care.

  4. Ah, Maeve. Doing the polite nod. It's all good. I'm sure your dh understands. I hope they win lest it's gonna be a sad day tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by, Kat. Pittsburgh is a great town.

Miriam, you are not dating yourself. We're all fans of the Steel Curtain!

  5. I'm a HUGE sports fan- football, soccer, hockey, baseball, boxing. (Can't stand basketball, though. Go figure!) I'm originally a Patriots fan since that's the team I grew up supporting, but after their disastrous display on the field last week, I'm now DEFINITELY a Steeler fan!

  6. My DH will be watching. For the most part, sports are a mystery to me, but I'm excited for you and all the rest of the Steelers fans.
